Step 1: Join Gift of Life with a cheek swab

You must be between the ages of 18-60 and in general good health to join the registry, which involves a simple cheek swab. You can enroll in person at a community drive or by ordering a mail order swab kit from this website! Your commitment is extremely important, so please learn about the process before joining.
Step 2: I'm a potential match! So what's next?

If identified as a possible match, the next step involves collecting a blood samples which will be evaluated by the patient's transplant center. This will also include testing for Infectious Disease Markers. Donors will be contacted by telephone or by mail if they are identified as a potential match, and kept apprised of the selection process.
Step 3: Selected as the Match! Time for Workup

If results from the confirmatory typing are a match and infectious disease markers are normal, the transplant center may request a donor "workup". This begins with an information session, and is followed by a complete physical exam, health history screening, chest x-ray, EKG, complete blood count, blood chemistries and other lab tests needed for medical clearance.
Step 4: It's Time to Donate --- Tell Me More!

If the donor is medically cleared based on the results of the physical exam and health history screening, the donor is scheduled for the donation. Depending on the request from the transplant center, the donation will either be bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells.
